This age calculator counts full elapsed years, months, and days between the two dates, the same way you'd count someone's age by hand: it doesn't round up until a full year, month, or day has actually passed.
Example: someone born on June 15, 1990 is 36 years, 2 months, and 25 days old as of September 9, 2026. Someone born on January 1, 2000 is 26 years, 8 months, and 8 days old on that same date. You can also look ahead: that same person born June 15, 1990 will be 36 years, 6 months, and 10 days old on December 25, 2026, useful for planning around a future milestone date.

Not every country has counted age the same way. Until June 2023, South Korea officially used a system where a newborn was considered 1 year old at birth, and everyone added another year on New Year's Day rather than on their own birthday, so a baby born in December could turn "2" just weeks later. A 2023 law standardized the country on the international age system used almost everywhere else, meaning many South Koreans became one or two years "younger" overnight in official terms (source).

How is age calculated in years, months, and days?
Start with the difference in years between the two dates, then adjust for whether the birth month and day have occurred yet in the current year. If the current day of the month is earlier than the birth day, you borrow a month (and count the days remaining in the previous month); if the current month is earlier than the birth month, you borrow a year. This calculator does that math automatically.
Does this calculator account for leap years?
Yes. Because it works directly with calendar dates rather than a fixed number of days per year, it automatically accounts for February 29th in leap years and for months of different lengths.
Can I calculate someone's age on a date other than today?
Yes. The "As Of Date" field defaults to today but can be changed to any past or future date, which is useful for figuring out how old someone was on a specific historical date, or how old they'll be on a future one.
What if someone was born on February 29th?
Their birthday only falls on the calendar in leap years, but this calculator still counts their age correctly using the actual number of elapsed years, months, and days between the two dates, regardless of which years are leap years.
Why does my age in months not match what I expected?
This calculator only counts a month as complete once that calendar day has passed. For example, someone born on the 20th isn't credited with a new month until the 20th of the current month arrives, the same way birthdays work.
